Regional Environmental Center

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) is an international organisation that was established in 1990 with a mission to assist in addressing environmental issues by promoting cooperation among stakeholders, the free exchange of information, and public participation in environmental decision making. The REC has a network of offices in 17 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, with its head office in Hungary. Its extensive experience in the administrative, financial and technical management of large, multi-country projects includes experience exchange, capacity building and awareness raising in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. The REC was lead partner in the INTERREG IVC Regions for Sustainable Change project, a partnership of 12 organisations from eight countries that aimed to promote a shift to a low-carbon economy through the development of suitable methodological tools. The REC has a staff of experts in the fields of climate change, low-carbon economy, environmental policy and sustainable development. Its Climate Change and Clean Energy Topic Area supports authorities in the development and implementation of climate change adaptation/mitigation policies.
