13th District of Budapest, Hungary

Budapest’s 13th district is one of the most rapidly developing areas of the Hungarian capital. It has a population of more than 100,000, and around 70,000 people work in the district.

Since 2003, the district has implemented a programme for environmental protection, and in 2009 the Local Agenda 21 was adopted. The municipality has a special programme for increasing green areas within the district. The Climate Strategy of the 13th district is currently under development. The aim is to establish the main directions for climate-related activities during the period 2012–2020. The climate strategy focuses on the main possibilities for mitigation, but only briefly mentions related plans and activities. The main concerns are the heat island effect, the growing volume of traffic, and human health risks.
