Technical working group meeting

Apr 1, 2014
The Romanian National Meteorological Administration organised a technical working group meeting on April 1 and 2, 2014, to present the current status of Pilot Study 2 and the preliminary results of the OrientGate project. Representatives of the Forest Department of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, coordinator of Thematic Centre 1, participated in the meeting, along with representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency of Covasna.

Participants included representatives of the Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of Romania, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Caracal Agricultural Research Development Station, and specialists working in agriculture, geography, water resources management, and environment and plant protection.

The first day of the meeting was dedicated to scientific debate. The agenda included a discussion of the current status of the project, a presentation of the preliminary results of Pilot Study 2, and an overview of future steps to identify the most suitable options for reducing the impacts of climate change (especially drought) on agriculture in the selected pilot area.

On the second day, a field study trip was organised to the Caracal Agricultural Research Development Station to visit the experimental plots developed under Pilot Study 2.

The event provided an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and lessons learnt between the academic and scientific community, decision makers and practitioners. Participants were able to explore the possibilities for reducing the impacts of drought in the region and for implementing project results in regional and local development plans.
